Rebuilding Lahaina By Restarting Maui's Entrepreneurs

A Bold, Unfiltered Look at Launching 7 Startups—From Scratch

When Lahaina Town and Harbor were destroyed in the 2023 wildfires, the heart of West Maui’s cultural, tourism,

and economic identity was forever changed. Our Founder and his AngelPreneur Venture Group Inc. (APVG) — a Hawaiian corporation, parent of GridZero and ClubZERO Rewards believe Maui’s recovery could be done much faster, stronger, and needs to be led by the very people who call it home. That’s why he created the Lahaina Business Fund - a private funding initiative designed to accelerate West Maui’s tourism and community revival while complementing state, local, and federal efforts.

The above videos share the timeline of the wildfire in 2023, and the current status 2 years after. Locals have mixed opinions of why the fires happened, how many actually died as a result and the response of their state and federal agencies as to Lahaina's recovery. What is very clear is that there is little if any movement in getting entrepreneurs back in business in the heart of Lahaina Town's Harbor and front street districts. It will likely take several more years before Lahaina is ready for tourist again, and APVG plans to help local businesses return as fast as possible.

How Our Lahaina Fund Will Work

From 2026 through 2029, APVG will allocate 10% of all gross ClubZERO member dues allocations received into the Lahaina Fund - projected to total over $50 million invested directly into West Maui through 2030. Every month, starting in early 2026, these funds will be placed into a trust account with a Hawaiian bank, audited each year. The Fund is owned and managed by APVG, which will distribute all funds in its sole discretion to accomplish one mission:

Rebuild, restore, and reimagine Lahaina’s business community and supporting infrastructure.

Why This Matters for Maui

While government disaster relief is essential, it is often very slow. Private capital moves faster and often is more flexible. APVG will set out to help local entrepreneurs who may not qualify for traditional financing, equipment leasing or operating credit lines, through its Lahaina Fund will:

  • Rebuild Local Businesses — grants, low-interest loans, and joint ventures for entrepreneurs replacing lost shops, restaurants, and tour services.

  • Support Tourism Infrastructure — inventory financing, equipment leases, and harbor-related operations to bring visitors back sooner.

  • Fund Housing Solutions — targeted employee housing developments to support the workforce that keeps West Maui’s economy running.

  • Acquire Key Properties — strategic purchases to preserve local ownership and prevent outside buyouts.

Result: A stronger, more resilient, modern Lahaina that retains its original culture and welcomes visitors back — restoring tourism, local jobs, and the island’s economic heartbeat. We have a lot of work to do before that day can arrive, but through the support of our ClubZERO members, what seems like an almost impossible undertaking, will become possible. It will not happen overnight, however, but it will happen!

“I don’t relate to the word ‘impossible’—I see ‘only that I’m possible.’ I don’t fear failure—it’s a tool, not a curse. One thing I have learned over the years is to never let someone's perception of you, your project or passion become your reality. Stay the course until you reach your destination”   Peter "The AngelPreneur" Ortmann
